The Purfleet master plan will deliver a mixed-used development of approximately 2, 500 homes on brownfield land in Purfleet. Led by Urban Catalyst, a regeneration and development specialist, the scheme will feature a major media and movie hub, including several film stages, and production suites. The development includes major enhancements to the surrounding landscape, with a new school and remodelled railway station.

The 600,000 sqft media hub, will be the first purpose-built film and TV studio complex of this type in the UK for fifty years. This is will be designed by this year's Stirling Award winners AHMM.

With the High House Production Park and the Royal Opera House Costume Centre in close proximity, the Quartermaster Studios will help to establish Purfleet as an international creative hub, benefiting from excellent rail connections with London Fenchurch Street less than half an hour away and a journey time to Canary Wharf of 40 minutes.

The nine-phase master plan will also see the regeneration of Purfleet's town centre, providing shops and local leisure amenities such as a marina and oyster bar on the redeveloped waterfront. The scheme will also include new community facilities such as a primary school and a health centre, as well as an upgraded rail station and bridging of the railway to close the existing level crossing.

Will Alsop:

"Purfleet is a town of joy and friendship facing South looking over the Thames. Our job is to evolve it into a truly great place to live. We are delighted to be working with KSS Group, AHMM, Thurrock, L&Q and Urban Catalyst."

The scheme received cross-party approval by Thurrock Council last summer. PCRL will now be going out for further local consultation on the master plan over the next six months.
